Akrotiri Peninsula
The Akrotiri Peninsula is a beautiful place to be visited .The sea is surrounded by hilly areas. It is a place of historical as well as geographical importance .
According to the historic records around the Akrotiri peninsula at south coast of Mediterranean sea has many evidence that proved the prehistoric links of Cyprus .
There have been a number of discoveries that have greatly enhanced our knowledge of the early human civilizations in the stone age, bronze age and the iron age.
One of the islands is the Aeotokremnos situated on Akrotiri Peninsula that proved the presence of hunter-gatherers community of prehistoric period dating back to around 10,000 BC.
There is also new evidence that suggests that there may be short lived occupation sites contemporary with Aeotokremnos on the west coast of the island in the area of the Akamas.
Currently around Akrotiri collectively called as UK sovereign base is used by UK as military bases ,UK entitled to lease two extensive areas on the southern coast of the island.
