Nicosia

Nicosia  is the capital city of Cyprus. The capital Nicosia remains divided since 1974. The UN buffer zone separates the two sectors.

 

Nicosia was attacked by Turks in 1974 that enforced the traditional culture to the city but from the last 20 years it is developing into a very modern society with a section of people accepting the modern values. The administrative building and presidential house of Cyprus are located in Nicosia.

 

Some of the tour spots and monuments to be visited in Nicosia are The Statue of Makarios III at the Archiepiscopal Palace, The Presidential Palace, Part of the Modern section of the city

Some of very important buildings and institute are located in Nicosia .like the Cyprus College , The Cyprus Institute of Marketing, Cyprus International Institute for the Environment and Public Health, Frederick Institute of Technology, Near East University and Cyprus International University.

 

It can be toured in two part the north Nicosia and the South Nicosia.

 

The north nicosis has many museums like the Lapidari Museum of stone fragment ,
Library of Sultan Mahmud II and Tekke is a religious lodging house and the Ethnographical Museum
having the island's richest collection of Ottoman artifacts.

The South Nicosia is most toured area of Cyprus with its wide range of museums and locations like the Kykkos Monastery Museum ,the Kostas Argyrou Museum,
the Archaeological Museum of Nicosia, the Nicosia Municipal Arts Center (it has restaurants and shops inside) ,Cyprus Jewelers Museum and others.
