Salamis are tour attractions of Cyprus located in the city
Famagusta. Salamis date back to 8200 B.C.The archaeological
record shows an hunter -gatherer group settled here .Salamis is an
ancient city of
Famagusta and there are many visited areas of salamis like the
the Namik Kemal Dungeon that is located
in the courtyard of the Venetian Palace and The Nikokreon
Monument thought to have been erected in the name of Nikokreon.
There is great history linked to Salamis that
when the Ionian Greeks revolted against Persia
(499 BC), the Cypriots joined in, led by
Onesilos who dethroned his brother, the king of
Salamis, for not wanting to fight for independence. The Persians
reacted quickly, sending a considerable force against Onesilos. The
Persians finally won despite Ionian help.
